March 2008 - The YHA Central Railway Hostel is an excellent place to explore Sydney from as it is in a very central location and right beside the transport mecca of Central Station. You can stay in one of the retired railway cars that they have turned into small 4 bed dorm rooms but the noise from Central Station soon out shines the novelty of this. The rooms in the building are quieter although there was issues with getting the temperature right as all the rooms thermostats are linked and the staff were the only ones who could change it.
The hostel is very clean and well set up with a large kitchen and sitting/ dining area. They have different events that cater to adding to the experience for out of country travellers such as the Aussie Barbecue night. The staff are generally friendly and helpful. There is a small pool that is, well, really small. It is sufficient to dip in on a hot day though.
This hostel is reasonably priced for pricey Sydney. I would recommend staying at the YHA Central Railway Hostel for price, location and cleanliness.
