February 2007 - I stayed here on a few occasions during my travels in Australia and found it to be clean, friendly, and full of handy amenities. I didn't use the kitchen because there are lots of great places to eat nearby, including the onsite cafe, which was very cheap, although the food was bland. The rooftop pool and patio was very nice, and every floor had a TV lounge. The room were clean and relatively quiet, except if you end up with noisy roommates. The bathrooms were quite clean and although there were only three shower and toilet stalls each, I never had to wait. There's a board where you can post notices or ads for rides, things you want to sell, etc. There are highspeed internet terminals, but they're sometimes full. The staff were super friendly (and cute!). I visited the bar, Scubar, once for the advertised 'crab races', but nothing was happening so I went opted for one of the Irish pubs on George Street instead. The location is somewhat convenient -- it's right by the train and bus terminals, so if you're catching one of them early in the morning, it's great. It was a bit of a walk (about half an hour) to Darling Harbour and also to the Rocks, but I didn't mind as I like walking. This place is a bit more expensive than the other choices (about $35 a night for a dorm) but I've stayed in some dodgy places before so the peace of mind in knowing that I am somewhere clean and safe was worth it.
