August 2007 - If you enjoy shopping for gift type items while you wait for a friend, this cafe is a good place to meet on Camrose Main Street. The customers arrive for morning coffee by 10:00, continue to gather for lunch, and meet friends in the afternoon. Be aware that the cafe hours are 8:30 to 4:30 although the shop is open later.
The lunch menu is varied. Sandwiches, quiche, smokies on a bun, pizza, soup, salads and homemade baking are all available. The special on this day was an egg salad sandwich with homemade creamed chicken soup for under $7. There are two person and four person tables and the cafe holds about 40 patrons. Floral wallpaper gives the place a tearoom atmosphere, friendly and casual.
The choice of a light lunch of soup, cheese toast, and a generous size salad made more than an ample lunch for $7.95. The chicken salad sandwich was served on the choice of brown or white bread or a croissant. I liked the brown seed bread which was fresh and newly sliced. The sandwich was $4.95. Add tea or coffee or a cold drink and the meal is complete. Water is served with the menus.
The server was efficient but very busy right at 12:15. A roving server/overseer made sure people were happy with the experience. There is room between tables to allow a pleasant visit. This is a quick lunch stop unless your friends want to stay and visit. That's okay too.
