October 2007 - I recently visited the Town of Smoky Lake for the Pumpkin Festival and was pleased to find a charming Bakery. The service at the Old Fashioned Bread Bakery was absolutely wonderful considering the mass amount of people lined up out the door. The Pumpkin Cider was delicious as were the samples of pumpkin squares. I even won a bakery tote bag by spinning the wheel. I will definelty go out of my way to pick up their excellent bread and pastries again.
Thank you to the wonderful staff at the Bakery. It was wonderful to meet the family owners and I look forward to enjoying the cozy atmosphere again in the near future.

June 2007 - I was camping at a friends lake lot 8 km outside of Smoky Lake. There was about 40 of us, and instead of bringing out a cake for my husbands birthday, I decided to order one form the bakery in town, and pick it up Saturday morning. I placed the order on Thursday, a full day's more notice than the bakery requires and at 10am (they open at 7am) Saturday morning I went into town to pick up the cake. It wasn't finished yet. The "cake decorator" was sitting down chatting and drinking coffee when I got there. When I asked for my order at the counter, the decorator jumped up from her seat and ran into the back. I waited for about 15 minutes. When she finally emerged with the cake that I had clearly stated was for my husband, there were gaudy purple flowers all over it. The icing was messy and you could see a few places where she had clearly made mistakes and had tried to wipe the icing off and replace it. Basically, it looked like a mess and like she had decoretd it in a hurry - which she obviously had. I was not impressed, considering the cake was $32 and they had 2 days notice to make it. Despite the very poor service and very poor presentation, the cake tasted delicious. However, I would NEVER order anything from the very disorganized and lazy staff again.
