| "Wonderful Antique Cowboy Cafe!" |
|
|
by Andrea (from Airdrie, Alberta) May 2008 - We drove up to this restaurant in the back parking lot on the south side of Wetaskiwin. It looked very small from the outside, but the gardens were beautiful. As we walked through the door, the antique cowboy theme is very evident. There are antique trains and wagon wheels inside. We sat towards the back, near the windows. The seats are cozy benches and large comfy chairs. It is a very inviting and bright restaurant, with lots of seating. The waitress was very prompt. She brought us menus and took our drink orders right away. The coffee was fresh and hot. The menu was full of ‘home-cooked’ meals. I ordered the battered chicken and house salad. My fiancée ordered potato soup and a roast beef sandwich. Our food came pretty quickly and was hot when it arrived. My chicken was battered in a pacora batter and was delicious! My house salad was baby spinach, mandarin oranges, toasted almonds and a sweet mayonnaise dressing. There was a Dijon dip for the chicken as well. The soup was very good, not too thick and lots of chunks of potato. For dessert, everyone had a Huckleberry sundae. This is vanilla ice cream with mixed berry sauce and whipped cream. It was very good. The prices were reasonable and though we were with our family of 4 others, our portion of the bill was only about $32. The atmosphere and the comfort of the restaurant was well worth the drive to Wetaskiwin. I would defiantly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area!

| "A Dining Pleasure" |

by Mary (from Camrose) December 2007 - Huckleberries in Wetaskiwin is tucked away in a commercial area, but it is truly worth the effort you may need to locate this well respected restaurant. I have no doubt that a patron will be able to find it for the second and many other visits! There is a friendly, warm atmosphere to greet you, since the owner has collected quite a number of antiques that are tastefully displayed. There are several sections for seating so that fairly large groups as well as a more intimate dinner may be experienced. Huckleberries is open for noon and evening dining. I chose the Heart Smart Platter, which included a tender grilled half chicken breast, green salad with their fabulous citrus dressing, a dinner roll, and generous fruit cup. All of this was priced under $10.00 so the value was certainly there. My dining partner who almost always orders 'something beef' had a 6 oz. beef cut which was tender and tasty. Believe it or not, we had no room to savor the restaurant's famous Huckleberry Pie. The evening staff was very young, but efficient, and the owner was quietly present by sometimes bringing orders out to the patrons. This is a welcome touch. I hope this business will continue operating, since I have never had a disappointing experience here.

| "Country Restaurant - FABULOUS SOUP!" |
|
|
by Hanna (from Edmonton) November 2007 - Located in Wetaskiwin, this café and restaurant is a small town gem. It is a favourite restaurant among the locals and is well known to other central Albertan communities. I know folks from Camrose who regularly travel to Huckleberry’s for their dinner dates.
The restaurant is decorated in mellow western decor. The combination of the restaurant’s atmosphere and the friendly service of the waiters provide visiting patrons with a cozy country place to enjoy a home-cooked meal. The food came quickly and the waitress was accommodating of our group of six.
As I was informed by Wetaskiwin locals, Huckleberry’s is famous for its huckleberry pie and dill pickle soup. Because I had heard such great things about this soup, I decided to order the Bayou Wrap (with the dill pickle soup as my side dish). The wrap was good. It was filled with chicken and veggies and accompanied by salsa and sour cream. (Though I could have used a bit more salsa). But, the soup was absolutely amazing! I had never tried pickle soup, but WOW is it GOOD! It was definitely the highlight of my meal!
Cost wise this place is very reasonable. The wrap and soup cost $9.00 (before tax and tip).
This is a great place to go, and I would go back JUST for another taste of soup!
