| "Convenient camping" |
|
|
by Gary (from Calgary, Alberta) August 2008 - The Tunnel mountain campground in Banff is great for beginner campers or campers who like to be close to town. It is about 5 minutes drive from the town and is serviced by Banff's city buses. We arrived on a Thursday evening and as were only staying for one night, seemed to be given one of their less impressive sites. Our site was next to the main road into the campground with not too many trees but that did afford a us a great view of the mountains. The campsite has flush toilets and showers so great for those who do not want to rough it. Our loop of the campsite was full and after going for a walk through a few other loops and also seeing the long lineup to enter the campground, it is probably better to get their earlier in the day during the busy summer months. The one downside of such a busy campsite is that there can be a lot of noise and just about the whole loop of the campsite was woken up by a rowdy drunken couple at about 2 in the morning who thought it would be great to announce to everyone they were drunk. However apart from that minor issue, the campsite is pleasant and very convenient.

| "Good camping option for Banff" |
by Joy (from Calgary) June 2008 - While visiting Banff this summer, we opted for the campground at Tunnel Mountain Village I. When we were there, Village I only had tents, no RVs, which was nice and the tent sites were private and spaced quite far apart from each other. In fact, we practically had the whole place to ourselves which was surprising for summer in Banff. There was even some wildlife about and apart from the trains which rolled through in the middle of the night and the graveled tent sites, this is a nice place to pitch a tent. And, it's a short five-minute drive into town.

| "Easy tenting in Banff" |

by Sally (from Fernie, BC) June 2008 - On the basis that all the guide books tell you to book in advance if you want to stay in Banff during the busy time we decided to pre-book for our visit at the end of June. We opted for one of the Tunnel Mountain provincial campgrounds which has two areas, Village I and Village II and booked for a couple of nights no problem. We booked the basic site without a fire pit and as we drove through the almost empty campground were treated to a view of two young bull elk grazing. Our site was on the edge and had a mountain view, which was wonderful. The bathrooms were a short walk away and were clean and had six free hot showers. The second night, which was a Thursday there were more sites occupied but it was still relatively empty. Despite the rock solid ground that was impossible to knock in tent pegs and in my experience the inevitable sound of the nighttime trains this was a great place to camp. I would still recommend pre-booking though as the campsite was worth it.
