by Tanya (from Calgary) July 2007 - The Wild Horse Bistro makes all their food to order. It is a small restaurant but they did not have any trouble pushing some tables together for our party of 8 people. They have a limited drink selection but the prices of the beverages were very reasonable. The menu is written on decorative chalk boards on the walls. I had the vegetable wrap with the spinach salad. The wrap was dry and could have used a lot more sauce. I enjoyed the salad which had strawberries on it and had a light dressing. The other food around the table looked great and I ended up wishing I had ordered something else. The dishes were small which was fine for me but would not fill up someone with a big appetite. The service was great and we were warned that our meals would take awhile since they make it when you order it. Most of the dishes were very healthy looking and most dishes were vegetarian with the option to add meat if you wanted. Even though my meal was not fantastic, I enjoyed the experience of the Wild Horse Bistro. It was a great change from pub food as nothing I saw on the menu was deep fried. I would recommend Wild Horse Bistro for anyone who wants a healthy, homemade meal.

by Lauren (from Calgary) July 2007 - This place is such a treat! I went with a group of about 7 friends for a birthday dinner and while it wasn't perfect, the Wild Horse Bistro is pretty impessive. Despite being smack in the middle of Alberta's ranching and oil country (aka, the greatest place on earth for people who love steak), the bistro offered a number of vegetarian options. The menu is written on blackboards mounted on the walls around the restaurant, which was a nice touch. I think we all ordered different dishes. Not everyone was completely impressed with their food, but we were all happy with the amount of options. I ordered a pasta salad with vegetables which was good but unfortunatley a bit bland. Some friends ordered nachos though, and said they were great and had lots of cheese. I also sampled a cous-cous dish and thought it was very good. They have a decent drink selection and it was all reasonably priced, especially when compared to similar spots in Calgary. Service was excellent and they were very up front that it might take a while to bring the food out for such a large group as everything is made fresh to order. We appreciated that they let us know and also that they took their time to prepare items. While the food was a bit hit-or-miss, I would definitely try the bistro again and recommend it to others.
