"The King of Midnight Shows"
by Chin (from Calgary)
May 2008 - Quite possibly the most entertaining theater in Calgary. The Plaza regularly has midnight shows of cult classics on the weekends. I've attended countless screenings of films like the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Meet the Feebles and Turkish Star Wars, and there's really no theater that is as accommodating to the rowdy crowds that frequent these films.

Keep in mind the midnight shows are sometimes slightly more expensive than a regular screening, but at the same time they regularly feature live opening acts. It's worth the extra dough, check it out.

" Art House Rules!"
by Joy (from Calgary)
October 2007 - Every city should have an art house cinema and thankfully Calgary does in the Plaza Theatre. The small, somewhat grubby lobby and the whir of the projector just add to the charm of the place and the old seats seem fitting - somehow, a film on Darfur doesn't really go hand in hand with a seat like an armchair fitted with a cup holder for a 64-ounce container of caffeine. The Plaza shows a cool selection of films - from documentaries to award-winning independent films and even some of the bigger, Oscar-earning names but without the shoot-em-up or happily-ever-after Hollywood.

"Long Live the Plaza"
by Thomas (from Calgary)
September 2007 - The Plaza is an inspiring place to behold. A small, noisy, theatre with old, hard seats that regularly shows independent films and supports the Calgary International Film Festival. How does a locally owned establishment like this last in the modern world of mega theatres and Hollywood blockbusters? I'm not sure, but I know its a very good thing. I would encourage anyone to see a movie here.
