"I love these guys - 3 hits you're in"
by Mike (from Calgary, Alberta ) March 2008 - Store#620; 1616 14 Ave S.W. Calgary In the last 4 months I have had tire, battery and brake problems with all 3 of my vehicles respectively. I bought a pair of used winter tires for my daughters car and took them in to Kal Tire to get them put on in place of the worn out summer tires. Kal Tire realized the used tires I bought were the wrong size tires for the car and one was slashed/unrepairable. When I went to pick the car up there was no charge and I ended up buying a new set of winter tires which they put on RIGHT AWAY while I waited. Wonderful. Sometime later I went in to buy a new battery for my classic mercedes which they had in stock and ready to go for roughly $20.00 cheaper than any other place as I had phoned around. More recently took my SUV in to flush the brakes as one of those Quikie places had put something other than brake fluid in the master brake cylinder reservoir and about a week later my brakes went south completely. I had personally changed the master cylinder, kalipers and rear cylinders after I had a verbal estimate from my Chrysler dealer it would be $3,000.00 + to fix the brakes. As it truned out I was unable to bleed the rear brakes as the proportioning unit and probably the ABS unit were both hatched as well. I took the vehicle to Kal Tire explained what had happened and what I had already done. They inspected the system to make sure the proportioning unit and ABS unit were the problem and ended up fixing it all for $1,000. and change. I bought a brand new set of tires and came out still $1,000. ahead of the game. I TRUST these guys. I like their service and it reminds me of the good old days the way people used to care.

"Worst Service Ever"
by George (from Calgary, Alberta) October 2007 - Location - 2363 20th Avenue N.E. Called about a week ahead to place and order and make an appointment. I ordered some new winter tires and winter rims. I made my appointment and showed up early to make sure that everything was ok. I even called a day ahead to confirm my appointment. Over the phone I was told that it could all be done while I waited and that it wouldn't take much time at all. Once I got there I was told because it was busy that it would take 2.5 hours. Working in service I understand the situation so I decided to call a cab and make my way home. I decided to check into my car after 3 hours had past. I was told that they would still require another hour before my car would see the service bay. So I waited. And called again after another 2 hours had past. I was then told that that very second they had found out that one of the parts ordered (a week ago) came in wrong and no one had noticed. So they then told me to they would have to wait another hour so that another location could deliver the rim. I was told again that it would take another hour. So I showed up about and waited another hour for my car to be completed. Do the math yourself. That officially killed my day.

"Don't trust everything they say"
by Martha (from Calgary) December 2006 - I bought my tires from Kal Tire and I was pleased to learn that they offer complimetary tire rotations. So every 10,000 km or so, I take my car in and wait around while they rotate the tires. The last time I went, I waited for 2.5 hours, which was annoying but I figured it was fair -- it was a Saturday, afterall. And they were nice enough to offer free sludge ... er .... coffee. Anyway, When I picked up my keys, the manager told me that my Tie Rod ends were so worn out that I only had a few more days of driving before I lost control of my steering. He was nice enough to prepare a $350 quote with the stern warning that my safety was at stake if I didn't get this fixed right now! I didn't take him up on the offer but his scare tactics worked because I called my partner immediately in a panic, asking him if it was safe for me to even drive home. Well, making a long story short, I made it home and as for my tie rod ends? A bit worn out, yes, but not alarmingly so. My boyfriend fixed them for me and it only cost me around $75 for the parts. I'll keep going to Kal Tire for my free rotations, but what's with the scare tactics? Why does every mechanic type in town see dollar signs when a woman walks into their store alone? It's frustrating.
