"Shop sales only"
by Lissette (from Calgary) November 2007 - I like browsing through the Bay, especially the downtown Calgary location because they tend to have a bigger and better selection. But one thing I've learned is to NEVER buy something for regular price at the Bay. They always have promotions and discounts, so it's worth to wait a couple of days before spending. When things go on sale, the savings are great!

"Service Issues"
by Mireille (from Calgary, AB) November 2007 - Overall I like shopping at the Bay. I enjoy the variety of name brands and products available. What I find really frustrating at many of the locations (Market Mall and Downtown Stores especially) is the lack of cashiers and staff which makes for long line-ups and missed opportunities to look at merchandise (jewellery and shoes for example). I think having a separate sales area/cash register for returns and exchanges would be helpful.

"Nice But Overpriced"
by Malva (from Calgary) October 2007 - I like the Bay, especially the one downtown as they offer the most selection. The Bay has a lot of nice items but generally almost everything is overpriced. However, they do have some good sales and this would be the best time to shop there. I got a Tommy Hilfiger bathrobe that was regular price $85 for only $18! The only thing that really annoys about the Bay and sometimes makes me not want to shop there is how aggressive some of the cashiers are on trying to get me to sign-up for a Bay card. I don't like carrying around a multitude of cards so I don't want more than I need to carry. I have literally had to argue with cashiers and waste time over this. I understand they have to ask people if they want the card but when the customer says they don't want it that should be the end of it.

"Classic Department Store"
by Pam (from Calgary) January 2007 - I work by the Bay downtown and visit it almost daily. The best thing about the downtown store is its historical architecture complete with white stone columns outside. The downtown location is now their 'flagship' store I think, so all the best products and variety are found here. I'm always disappointed with their deli though. Having a deli in the basement is such a great idea but they never seem to get it together. The salads are always so-so and I'm never sure how fresh anything is. I think they could really get their act together to make it more of lunch spot. However, it does get busy as it is. there is also a grill restaurant in the basement as well as a cafeteria on the top floor (I think). Also on the top floor is a discount section that not too many people know about. Things at the Bay are generally a bit pricier than the same products at wallmart. It used to be because the Bay had great customer service so you pay for that. But now they have also cut their staff members so it is difficult to find assistance and sometimes you can stand quite long in line to pay for things. I think that was a mistake. I would be happier if the Bay dedicated itself to being a quality service department store more on par with say Selfridge's or John Lewis in London. I think they could take more pride in themselves that way, spend more attention to detail, have creative displays, shelves that are dusted regularly...
