| "Newly Renovated and still great Food!" |

by Jordan (from Calgary) January 2009 - I visited Bootleggers, a common occurrence, in January with some relatives. I've seen this place come a long way since I moved to Calgary 2 years ago now. I must say it has one of the most modern appearances out of many of the restaurants/bars in Calgary. The key to bootleggers is they aren't outrageously prices as a result of that luxury. They still have cheap wing nights, happy hours, 50% appetizers, buckets of beer, and my favorite is the 7.99 steak sandwich. Not quite to sure what goes on in the process, but the cook has it sent out almost falling off of your fork its so tender, every time. Also, I must give props to the spices used on the meat, excellent. What makes the experience even better is that the steak sandwich deal falls exactly between the same hours as happy hour. So grab some friends and a couple bux and chances are you'll be having steak, chicken wings, beers, and enough left over for the cab ride home!!!

by Denny (from Calgary, AB) November 2008 - I don't know what to think of Bootlegger's. It's been so on and off everytime we go there. Either the service is horrid or the food isn't up to par, but on this particular visit we were actually quite pleased.
I think it totally matters WHEN you go to Bootlegger's. In my personal opinion you should not go when it's super busy and turning into a nightclub... maybe I'm getting old, but the fact that it's hard to get a table during these times just turns me off. Also the quality of the service and food goes way down on busy nights - like wing night for instance.
On Saturday afternoons between 5pm and 7pm they have some amazing specials on. Not only are domestic bottled beer $2.75, they have appetizers on for half price and entrees are also half price. We chose to start with some wings and my girlfriend also ordered some spring rolls. I had the steak sandwich, and I honestly can't complain about anything. To top it all off, we had quite a few beer each and with the two appetizers and main course, it was less that $40... pretty much unheard of in this city. The server this time was also great. I just wish the service was a little more consistent and we might go back more often!

| "A Big Disappointment This Time!" |

by Breanna (from Calgary, AB) May 2008 - I have been a fan of Bootleggers for quite awhile now, even though the service is generally really bad. The wings are good, cheap and they have tons of flavours. However, last night was a BIG disappointment. For once, the service was pretty good, but the wings not only went up in price, but they tasted really bad. They were overcooked, had less meat on them and they tasted like the deep fryer hadn't changed its grease in weeks. Stale, yucky, grease-tasting wings is what we got. I thought maybe it was just me, but after we ate we joined a table of our friends and they told us they had actually sent back 20 of their wings because they were disgusting and had little flavour. They are regulars at the bar and it probably wasn't a good thing that they didn't enjoy their experience at all - Bootlegger's could lose a lot of business if they don't please these guys.
I am saddened that the experience was so horrible. I think I might give them one more chance, but if they are still disgusting, I'm going elsewhere. Wings are not rocket science, and there are so many other places to get good ones. On a side note, they also canceled all their specials on Fridays - pretty lame!

by Chinface (from Calgary) April 2008 - Checked out the newly renovated Bootleggers the other day.
As a reference point the last time I had been there an inebriated patron made karaoke less a treat and more like torture. But that's neither here nor there as this is the new and improved Bootleggers.
And improved it is; especially if you enjoy flat-screen tvs. Boy does this place have flat screens. Seriously, for a sports fan like myself it's a dream come true, for at any given time in that place I was watching a Flames game, Blue Jays game, and a high-stakes poker game at the same time. So yeah, as far as the new layout goes, kudos on a job well done.
Now if only they could have renovated the service...
It took a good 20 minutes for a server to even approach my friends and I for a drink order, and even then it was only because of the bartender noticing our need for a pint. Mind you once we did get served, and the server was convinced my friends and I might tip big, the service improved mildly.
Yay to pub grub.
Not much to say here. It was wing night, they were cheap, can't complain. Can't really recommend them either.
In the end, if you don't feel like making the drive to Melrose and you live in the North East, check out Bootleggers, it'll do just fine.

by Sarah (from Calgary, AB) March 2008 - I had never been to Bootleggers until I met a bunch of guys in Cuba that are from Calgary and frequent it a ridiculous number of times every week. It looks kind of shady from the outside, but man, I can't believe I've been avoiding this place just because the outside looked iffy. It is AWESOME inside... there are big-screen televisions everywhere and they have a wicked menu filled with wings, subs, burgers, appetizers, entrees... you name it. They also have incredible specials throughout the week, including 19 cent wings every Wednesday night and all day Sunday and half price appys every day from 3-7pm and all day Sunday. We have made it our ritual of going out on Wednesday nights now just for the wings - they have 40 flavours!! The only downfall is that the wait staff is pretty bad - sometimes downright embarrassing bad. They drop stuff, they forget things and they can't split a bill if their lives depended on it. Yet, I still go back... I'm a sucker for good wings and since they renovated the atmosphere is awesome. Can't wait till later this month when the entire place is renovated and open!
