March 2008 - What I love most about Brava Bistro is how grown up "kid-like" it is... so what does that really mean. It means that its a great hang-out for the grown-up kid in me! For example - the classic Canadian poutine... modernized into the grown up version with pommes frites, lobster and mascarpone cheese. Can it get any better!! #2. Crispy Chicken with mashed potatoes and carrots... this menu item by the way is a classic Brava Bistro tradition - how they get the skin so crispy is a miracle! But when it comes to comfort food - this is the ulimate. The menu changes seasonally - right now it is all about the braised lamb shank or the short ribs. To wash all this good food down - don't even bother looking at the wine list... just ask your server what they would recommend. This is probably one of the most educated group of servers in Calgary (no offense to Teatro's) when it comes to their wine list. I understand that the owner has weekly (if not daily) wine tastings with the staff. The list is constantly changing and includes some of the best boutique wines you'll find on any wine list in Calgary. So - go ahead - ask the server what they've tried today. You'll be sure to be trying some new varietal that will likely blow your socks off!! Service is excellent. All the staff have been around at Brava for awhile (doesn't that tell you something) - they are the true professionals of their trade and it shows. Everything seems to be effortless and gets my vote for one of the coolest urban hang-outs for all the big kids in the hood.
