| "Smallest steak ever" |

by first (from calgary) December 2007 - For lunch my guest and I both had the $27 NY steak. Both our steaks were tiny, literally half the size of the burgers being served all around us (we sat at the bar). It was the smallest "steak" I have ever been served in a restaurant. We complained about the size and were told that was the "lunch sized portion". Caesars, Chophouse, etc. are priced about the same but serve much more reasonable portions. The steak itself was bland too.
Either order a burger or skip this place all together.

| "THE WORST EVER" |

by Liliana (from calgary) September 2007 - My Husband and I decided to try Buchanan's after hearing and reading about all the rave reviews. Let me just say Buchanan's was a big disappointment. First of all the restaurant was too bright, too many lights and very cold. When I mean to say "cold" I mean they must of had the air conditioning on full blast. Not pleasant when outside was 10 degrees celcius. The service was okay, slow but not great and not very helpful. The food, in a word, was bad.... my husband order the filet mignon and I order the rack of lamb. Both entrees came with mashed potatoes and some vegetables. The potatoes were dry and tasted as if they came from a box. The vegetables were questionable, we didn't even try them. The meat was okay. I could find the same quality and flavour if I went to the Keg, and that's not saying much for a so-called "Chop House". The presentation of the entree was horrible, for the amount of money we spent on dinner they could have at least done something more appetizing than an ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes. If anyone is reading this... DO NOT WASTE your time or money at Buchanan's. Its not worth it.

by Denny (from Calgary, AB) August 2006 - My wife and I dined at Buchanan's tonight and were very impressed. We started with the potstickers, which had a delicious spicy and tangy sauce. Then I got the 24 oz Prime Rib Chop and my wife ordered the 10 oz Steak Delmonico with a Chipotle-Mushroom-Smoked Bacon Sauce. Both dishes were delicious.
The wine list was extensive and my wife ordered the Cave Spring Cellars Reserve Reisling and was very satisfied. For dessert I ordered the Strawberry-Blueberry-Raspberry Shortcake and my wife ordered the Mousse tower and again, they were so tasty.
The service was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere was like a real chophouse. We spent nearly $200, but it was well worth it for a special night out. We will visit again one day.
