| "Western-Chinese at the top of its game" |

June 2009 - When my friends and I are in the mood for Western-Chinese food (stuff like ginger beef, sweet and sour pork chops, dry ribs) we like to hit up China Rose.
Far from a hole in the wall, China Rose is housed in a very nicely kept building that contains a large dining room, banquet room and a bar. We sat in the bar so we could watch the playoffs.
We ordered the aforementioned trifecta of ginger beef, sweet and sour pork, and dry ribs; as well as some fried rice and chicken wings (which are on sale during happy hour and highly recommended). The rice was dry and not so good, however everything else was the perfect combination of crunchy deep fried goodness surrounded by gooey tasty sauce.
Our server was prompt with our drinks and was nice enough to check in on us regularly (which believe it or not is not always the case at a traditional Chinese restaurant.)
Would I come here for congee and some hot pot? Probably not. Will I come back for my favourite Western-Chinese food? You bet.

April 2008 - The selection isn't large, but the taste sure is.
Bottom line, my friends and I seek out wing nights, and one of the things I've noticed is how bad the quality of the wings in Calgary have become. Mind you, I never complain because let's face it, who can complain when wings only cost 15-25 cents. Anyways, tired of waiting in line for bad chicken wings, my friends and I went to China Rose to eat one night.
Good thing we did. The wings served here during happy hour are the same wings you get at the buffet, but prepared fresh. There are only 4 types of flavours to choose from, but they're all good. Just imagine ginger beef in chicken wing form and you get a good idea of what the honey garlic wings are like.
I was almost hesitant writing this review because I fear if I write about how good the wings are, the next time I go, I'll have to line up for a table.
Oh well. The chicken wings served in the China Rose lounge are worth the wait.
P.S. The service was really good, because there was no one in the lounge.
