"Most annoying night"

by Scott (from Calgary)
June 2007 - Went to Amsterdam Rhino the other night and the staff there i found very unfriendly which will stop me from ever going there again because frankly a bar is nothing if they don't have good staff

"Nice Spot for Lunch"
7.33
by Enrique (from Calgary, AB)
June 2007 - Had lunch at the Amsterdam Rhino with a friend recently, and despite some bad service (nothing new in Calgary these days), our drinks and food were great. We sat on the inner patio and enjoyed a very tasty in-house brew while we waited for our lunch to be served. We both ordered the Calamari sandwich and thought it was an original idea that worked out well. I'll definitely be going back.

"Sweet times"

November 2006 - I went to the Rhino with some friends for the first time last night and it was amazing. Great music downstairs and averagely priced drinks. ($4.00 highballs) Very good vibe to the place.

"Clean, cool look but smoky"
8.20

by Michael (from Calgary)
September 2006 - I've wanted to eat here for a while but only got the opporunity today. The atmosphere is cool and clean, but I walked away smelling like a kipper. I think the restaurant next door (adjoining) is smoke free, I'll try there next time. The food was very tasty. I had the Steak and Frites and a ginger ale. The bill came up to just over $18. The steak was done perfectly and it was different than I've had it before. Different good. It was seasoned, I'm not sure with what, and it came with a pat of butter on top. A little rich but satisfying. The fries were seasoned, possibly with fleur de sel, I'm not sure. I really didn't need the mustard or ketchup that was served with them because they were so good.

"Good Beer, Cool Atmosphere"
9.40

by Wendi (from Calgary)
August 2006 - Amsterdam Rhino is a cross between a westcoast style pub and a wine bar, with a trendy, wood interior and heated patio. We went just for drinks but they also have a menu. They don't have much beer on tap, but they make their own. I had the hairy eyeball, which is a foggy beer, much like Hogaarten, only I actually liked it better. And it only cost $4.25, cheap for downtown. Brick walls add to a warehouse feel. It's a hip joint. High ceilings meant it wasn't smokey. And the DJ (Wednesday) spun some great acid jazzy, trip-hop type grooves. And Wednesday is half price wine, which is also nice. They also tout that they are cocktail specialists with a big bar and trained bar tenders. Their house gin is bombay sapphire.
