"Outstanding food and service"

by Valerie (from calgary )
September 2008 - After a long evening of moving house, my folks and I popped into the Cat & Fiddle for some much-needed sustenance.
We arrived around nine pm and the pub was brimming with people and a live auction was underway, raising funds for the Rosedale cancer hospice.
Despite being screamingly busy with a full section, our server approached our table almost immediately and brought our drinks with lightning speed. She took our food order straight away and our meals came out within fifteen minutes. Impressive.
My mom ordered the fish and chips and raved about the crispy batter and curried tartar sauce. My dad ordered a BLT and said the bacon and tomato were the perfect consistency. I ordered the New York strip sandwich and was pleasantly surprised to find it prepared exactly the way I like it, with a thick ribbon of pink in the center. The accompanying french fries were robustly seasoned and crispy.
Our efficient and personable server checked on our meals in a timely manner and didn't hesitate to bring me some water.
At the end of our meal, she didn't make us wait for the bill and bid us good night in a courteous and professional manner.
I was duly impressed with the service and food at this busy pub and I can't wait to return with a group of friends for a lively evening of good times.

"Anything Goes"

May 2006 - Simply known by some as "The Fiddle", this pub is a typical Canadian pub without any overt English or Irish theme. There are big screens to watch sports, and a big bar to order beer from, and junktique and sport paraphanalia on the walls. It's in a converted church (so you can feel good about going on Sunday) but there is nothing left inside to give you that impression. There are daily specials that are worth partaking of, including beer and burger for under five bucks. There is a good vibe here, casual, anything goes kinda joint. Students and seniors allike can enjoy a drink here. Like most places in Calgary, they are understaffed so service was slow the last two times I was there. The food selection is pretty good too. We had fish and chips, riblets and burgers--all reasonabley priced and tasty.
