"No flavor... sorry!"

by Chris (from Calgary) July 2008 - I went to Buon Giorno for my birthday with 7 friends. The waiter... not very nice at all. He mostly ignored us and when asked us anything... he grunted it. So bad service. But I can deal with that and don't mind it that much.
Food... the bruschetta appetizer was just bad. That's the only way to describe it. The crab in mushrooms... tiny mushrooms... I would give them an OK.
For the main I had the Tortellini Buon Gustaio... not very flavorful at all. Kind of bland. Some of my friends had the rizotto and commented how it wasn't rizotto... more like a paella instead. Again, I tasted a friend's rizotto... bland. Nothing horrible by any means... but definitely not good.
I won't be going back. I have still yet to find a good Italian (reasonably priced) in Calgary. The search continues!

by Kate (from Calgary) December 2006 - The fly wasn't the only spice they add to food. I ordered a risotto and found an onion skin and shrimp shell in it - I am not sure how garbage can end up in a plate like that. I have been there over 20 times and I can often see breat being reused, even half of the bun.

"Tastes like more"

by Michael (from Calgary, AB) August 2006 - I've heard about Buon Giorno for a long time and finally went last night with my wife and another couple. It was, to say the least, very tasty. I don't usually go out for Italian food because it seems overpriced (pasta being fairly inexpensive to make) and while this restaurant charged some prices that were a little steep, the food was worth it. We started off with an order of the calamari in a tomato sauce and it was very good. I was disappointed that I had to share with everyone else at the table. Two of our group had a scallop pasta and one ordered a veggie pasta with a butter white wine sauce. The all enjoyed it. I ordered scallops from the seafood menu which came with a side dish of the pasta of the day. The scallops were twwo-thirds the size of a hockey puck and they were perfectly cooked. Unfortunately the sauce went to waste at the end because I didn't have any bread to soak it up. The waiter suggested the tiramisu so I had that. It was good but my wife's cheesecake was far better. With the meal we drank chianti (I probably shold have ordered the house wine instead). It was a fun night and I left stuffed but wanting to eat more.

"Excellent but be careful..."

by Martha (from Calgary) February 2006 - I've eaten here many times and will continue to do so since the food is great, but a few years ago I ordered the tiramisu and found a crunchy bit in it....which turned out to be a fly!! It put me off my dessert but I think it must have been an isolated incident because I have never again had a problem. My mother was thoroughly unimpressed because they didn't really give us any discount on the meal (my dessert was free, but that's a given), and I agree, they couldn've done more, but such is life.
