| "Pretty OK" |
by Mandy (from Calgary) February 2007 - I recently tried the Blue River Bistro for lunch. The atmosphere was pretty good, and the food was tasty but I didn't feel like it was the best value. I got the daily special, a pasta dish for $7, but the portion was a bit small and it didn't come with anything. I ordered a salad to go along with it, which was unspectacular, for $3. So my lunch was $10 without a drink, which, let's face it, isn't going to break the bank, but I was still hungry once I had finished eating. I also didn't like that they used styrofoam, even for the people eating in. It seems so wasteful.

| "A Good Deli That's Environmentally Unfriendly!" |
by Josie (from Calgary, AB) February 2007 - I recently went to the Blue River Bistro for the first time. I had heard that it was a good lunch spot, so we thought we'd check it out. It is set up like a deli and they offer daily specials. The day I went it was chicken tortellini, which was very good, yet the portions were not big and I had no problem finishing it. I also got a mocha that was just average. The mocha and the pasta came to about $10, which seemed kind of expensive for what I got, especially compared to other cheap downtown delis. The thing that really bugged me about the restaurant is that they only used Styrofoam plates, Styrofoam takeout containers, paper cups and plastic cutlery. It was disgusting seeing all the unnecessary waste. Since the food was good, I think I will probably go back, but it won't be in my top 5 luncheon spots found in the same area.

| "Simple Food Done Right" |
by Mike (from Calgary, Alberta) August 2006 - I've been going to the Blue River Bistro at least once a week for the past couple of years. This is a textbook example of a restaurant doing simple food right. Lunch features are generally excellent (today I had the tuna melt and minestrone soup) and the atmosphere is clean and modern.
Unfortunately, a couple of months ago the restaurant switched from proper flatware to plastic utensils and styrofoam plates and bowls. Not only is this environmentally unfriendly, it also cheapens the whole dining experience. I overheard the manager say that they didn't have the staff to keep up with the dish washing, but it sounded more like a poor excuse to save/make a little more money. If the food wasn't as good as it is, I'd be looking for a new lunch spot.
