"Great but going down hill..."
7.83
by Tracey (from Calgary)
December 2008 - We have visited Bolero's MANY times - nearly once a month for a while - and we don't hesitate to recommend it and take friends there often. That being said - their success has come at a price. The quality of food has gone downhill since they first opened. They are always fully booked, and in order to turn tables and get as many diners as possible each night - I feel that the quality has suffered. The first few times we went - the meat was UNREAL. So completely different and far above anything we had eaten in Calgary before, we couldn't wait to go back. Lately though - it's just good - never have we had a bad meal, but meats are seriously overcooked and charred (yes I understand that it's rotissirie grilled) and it's a shame to get filet minion that's hard as a rock. The service has also slowed way down as well - which in some ways is a good thing - a constant stream of meat and you're pretty full pretty soon. They claim to have a system to ensure that you see each of the offerings - but it seems that there are always missing things from the cycle....servers are all too happy to get specific things you haven't had though. All in all - it's a great experience, but they need to watch that it doesn't slide any further.

"Brazilian Dining Experience"
10
by Pamela (from Lacombe)
November 2008 - When a friend asked me if I'd like to join her for a Brazilian dining experience I was a little skeptical of what I would be eating. The Bolero is a dining experience worth trying.

This is a restaurant for the meat lover as the menu boasts a large variety of meats (12 in all) which the "gauchos" bring to your table on large skewers. They will cut off as many slices as you like and when you're ready for another serve you simply put your red/green marker out on the table for another round of delicacies. We sampled prime rib, fillet mignon, lamb, chicken, sausages, pork and more plus grilled fruit and vegetables. The restaurant also has a buffet table selection of Brazilian side dishes which were very tasty as well.

I really enjoyed this restaurant and would definitely go there again. The service was terrific, the food was delicious and there's plenty of ambiance in the decor. It's usually packed so bookings are definitely required.

"Fun Experience"
7
by Christopher (from Calgary)
October 2008 - None of the meets were great by any means... and the cold and hot salad bars weren't great either... the whole point of this resto was fun. I went with a bunch of friends and we certainly ate all we could eat (with some regret at the end). This place is about quantity and not quality. But that being said... the cost is worth the amount and the food is good but just not great. I would go again... in about a year when I'm done digesting the meat I ate this time around.

"Can't believe the hype...so far"
6.83
by Duc (from Calgary)
September 2008 - From what I have heard about Bolero's, all was good...until I went for myself. It had a good atmosphere, but that food was bland and overcooked. The grilled pineapple was excellent. We actually gave some constructive criticism to the host as we walk out of the restaurant. We commented on how the food was over cooked and his response was that people complained that some meat was too rare. I am recommending this restaurant for the variety...hopefully they corrected the meat issue. I will be back and try it again to see if they took our advice.

"A Wide Selection of Meat"
8.83
by Elizabeth (from Calgary)
July 2008 - I'm not a huge meat eater, but at the Bolero it's too tempting to try as many meats as possible. For $35 you can fill up on as much meat as you would like. The salad bar is pretty good too, with fresh salads and pastas. Although the meat is great, one of my favourite items at the Bolero is the BBQ pineapple. So good!!!

"Excellent experience!"

by Christine (from Calgary, AB)
February 2008 - This restaurant is an excellent experience with wonderful food. Go hungry and be prepared to try the full experience for $35 per person (worth every penny!). Meat eaters will LOVE the concept, and vegetarians should not shy away as the salad & hot bar offer great food as well. Allow yourself about 2 hours for the experience. The atmosphere here is casual yet classy, not fancy at all. We will continue to visit this establishment and highly recommend it.

"Great time and great for meatlovers!"

by Jill (from Calgary, Alberta)
March 2007 - If you love meat and love to eat then you'll really enjoy this experience.

Try not to fill up too much on the buffet because once the meat starts coming around you will want to try everything. We both tried the sampler of evreyhting, I thin it was $35 per person! Make sure you make room for the grill pineapple...my fav!

The service is great and staff is really friendly!

We'll be back again and again!

PS- Go hungry and pace yourself, it's a lot of food!
