August 2008 - MEC's rental department is quite impressive--they rent everything from camping equipment to kayaks. We rented a tent and two sleeping mats from MEC last weekend and were relieved to find it all in very good condition. In fact, the items they rent are high quality products. The only issue was two or three missing pegs, which I guess could have been a much bigger problem if we hadn't found a couple of small rocks and borrowed a couple of pegs from another tent... Also, if you don't want to stay in a tent with only mesh sides (under the fly), specifically ask--they have a few different options.
I think the prices are pretty reasonable, compared with other options around Calgary and MEC's location is very handy for us (central SW) so we are giving them another go this weekend.

October 2007 - MEC is a really cool shop, even if you aren't planning on buying anything. It is super big, and nicely decorated (It looks like a really big log cabin). They have every piece of outdoor equipment you could want, and the staff is extremely knowledgeable.

June 2006 - MEC is a great store for both outdoor enthusiasts and travellers. Find everything you need for your next adventure: back packs, tents, clothing, camping gear etc. This is a fun store to visit even if you don't plan on buying anything.
