June 2008 - Wow! I was really surprised by how delicious our lunch here was. I had received a glowing recommendation from a friend about the Hitchin' Post, but it is just a small, faded, little shack, so my expectations were pretty low.
Ordered way too much food - a real strawberry milkshake for me, a chocolate banana one for my husband, deep fried mushrooms to share and an HP burger each. The HP burger is two beef patties, a ham slice, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onions and condiments. From reading the menu, I thought it would be a burger with HP sauce on it, but a friendly person who was also waiting to order corrected me. The beef on the burger was so tasty - no skimpy little patties here!
I wholeheartedly agree with the other reviewer - it is well worth the drive from Calgary!

August 2007 - The Hitchin Post is High River's version of Peter's Drive-In only better. I grew up in the High River area and anyone else who did is familiar with the popular burger stop that has been around long before the MacDonald's & Dairy Queen arrived in town. The hamburgers, fries and milkshakes are all good but I am always a sucker for the deep fried mushrooms. Be forewarned, the bag comes dripping in grease but that's what makes them taste so good! If you are looking for an escape from the city take the trip out to High River to the Hichin Post. It's worth the drive!
