| "So Much to See" |
by d (from Calgary) December 2007 - Wow, is this a mall or a theme park? I didn't really know anything about the West Edmonton Mall besides being the biggest in the world, and that I'd heard there was a waterpark in there (although I think I half expected just a pool amongst the shops...). I could tell it was not just going to be a regular mall experience on a larger scale after only a few steps through the doors. First thing we bumped into was a little farm with gorgeous little goats, a couple of piggies, and a sweet little miniature horse!! Was this for real? The next surprise was a full-sized ice-skating rink! Beyond that, a Deep Sea themed area with BUMPER BOATS!, and a performing seal. We pressed our noses up against the glass looking over the waterpark where waves from the wave pool washed up on a fake beach. The waterslides looked AWESOME. There was even a trampoline bungee jump area around another corner. We were instantly disappointed when we realised there would be no time for all of this with the Christmas shopping mission we had ahead of us. The place is HUGE. Needless to say there are hundreds and hundreds of shops, some of which I don't think we have in Calgary. Recommendations for improvement: we had a little map from the info booth, but I think it would be better if they had many more signs around the place: I remember seeing only one mall map sign. The actual mall building is pretty old and looks out-dated. To keep in line with the complete entertainment and tourist destination that the mall is, some renovations of the shopping areas would be good. But to sum up, the spectacle was worth the trip!

| "Abit disapointed" |
by Selena (from Langley, B.C.) November 2006 - The family and I went to West Edmonton Mall (WEM) for the first time and I have to say I wasn't overly impressed. I thought it was going to be extravagant but it was just like any other mall except for the added amusements, ice rink, water park etc. The stores are all the same anywhere else in Canada, nothing really unique except for a handful of speciality shops. Even though you save money on the PST it wasn't enough for me to come out of there with my hands full. The bathrooms were dirty and small, alot didn't offer changing tables for babies. The signage was horrible, unless you had a pocket map or found an in mall directory you couldn't find a bathroom. The Pirate ship was closed along with the submarine, the underground Sea Caverns was a waste of money you can save your money and watch the sea lions show from the upper levels for free. The "aquarium" was about the size of 600 sqft with next to nothing to see but penguins, sharks and some fish. They are renovating but it's a small space and not enough to make me spend my money in there again. Galaxyland was a maze and hard to find out where to stand in line for rides, the only reason there was any line up's was because there was one operator for 2-3 rides. I don't think I would make another trip there, I wasn't overly excited about the place & I love to shop !!! If you are wanting to see the mall go during the week and wednesdays offer half price rate at Galaxyland which is nice. We did that whole mall in one day just walking around and some shopping.
