by Andrea (from Airdrie, Alberta) December 2007 - Walking into this grand 1900’s hotel, I felt a bit overwhelmed, not to mention underdressed. Overlooking the North Saskatchewan River Valley, the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald's classic elegance makes you feel like upper society. We had our truck valet parked… for $13.00. To get to the buffet room, you walk quite a ways from the main entrance. There is a coat check, but we opted too keep ours. As we walked in and sat down, we were offered Champagne and Orange juice by a waiter with white gloves on. The buffet was split into two parts. There were breakfast items in a separate room with an omelet station and a crape station. There were also desserts in this separate room. In the middle of the main room was a circular buffet with many dishes. There were waffles, sausages and bacon, pork ribs, free-range turkey with stuffing, and chow-mien. There was a carving station with port tenderloin. The food was mediocre. We came towards the end of the buffet, and most of the items were in their last stages. There was an extensive selection of seafood and cheeses with fruit and rolls. Some dishes, like the fresh omelets, were wonderful, but others seem to have been past their prime, as the chow-mien was soggy. The staff was incredibly attentive. As soon as our glasses were half empty, there were topped up with Champagne and Orange juice. The desserts were brilliant. The chocolate mouse cake was fantastic. Since it was a buffet, you were able to take a much or as little as you wanted. The prices were a bit steep at $44 CAD for Adults, $37 for Seniors, $ 22 for Children and free for Children under 5. The hours are Sundays only from 10am to 2pm. Seatings are every hour on the hour. This was a good overall experience, though a bit pricey for the food.

| "Classy and convenient" |

by Jennifer (from Calgary) October 2006 - I have always been impressed with the service and attention to details at any Fairmont property I have visited and the Hotel MacDonald was no exception. The bed was extremely comfortable with warm duvets and the bathroom was huge. Everything was spotlessly clean. The staff were very friendly and professional.
The hotel is right downtown and only a block away from the Shaw Conference Centre, so the location is very convenient.
