| "3 Rooms too many" |
by Jane (from Edmonton, AB) August 2007 - Having spent a lot of time in the dontown area, we decided to try the Four Rooms for something different. To be honest, we had gone to a few other restaurants that were all closed, so we decided to just stop and eat since we were in the area. We'll probably never go back. The restaurant is visually appealing, with a warm, chic, inviting decor, and the service is quite good, as is the wine selection. However, the quality of food was very poor.
The salmon and caper latke's we had for an appetizer were actually quite good. My husband ordered the jambalya and was disappointed. It was spicy, but had no real flavour. The shrimps were small and scarce and the sausage was pretty non-existant. I ordered the pasta special, a seafood linguine with cream sambuca sauce. It was ok. Pretty bland, and the sambuca taste was barely detectable.
I guess we just expected more. We were starving, and usually when you're that hungry, anything you taste is fantastic. Not so with this restaurant. We were disappointed and will most likely eat elsewhere when we are downtown next time.
