| "Good Food, Good Drinks, Poor Service" |

by Paige (from Edmonton, AB) August 2007 - West Edmonton Mall - Bourbon Street Location
There was a group of us shopping in West Edmonton Mall a few weekends ago. We decided to go for lunch. Earls' was the shortest wait. I guess Saturday afternoons are as busy a time to eat on Burbon Street as any other.
No complaints about the food. Calamari was great, all the other girls had great meals.
The server informed us it was Happy Hour for all cocktails, and this included blended drinks (we made sure of this - he went and checked, and came back and said that yes, bleneded drinks were included). So, we all ordered Margarita's and Daquiries. Of course, when the bill came, he then told us that he had, ooops, made a mistake, and happy hour cocktails didn't included blended drinks. We were not impressed. It's not the extra couple of bucks that bugged me. It's the incompetence and apathetic attitude of the situation. To "fix" the error, he said he'd give us all 10% off of our drinks (big deal), which still made them more expensive than we were told they would be before ordering, but, whatever. For my part, I just tipped him less, as I truely feel he did a poor job of rectifying his own error.
The other complaint is for this Earl's location, and yet, includes all Earl's locations.
Geeeez. We get it. The staff is hot. We know. We have eyes. Why is it necessary for all the off-duty staff members to hang out at work on their time off, 15 people squishing into one tiny 2-seater booth, laughing and flirting with each other while I'm trying to eat? Seriously, it's a complete turn-off to the restaurant. I certainly do not hang out at work on my days off - I have a life. I find it annoying to have to watch the mini-skirts walk back and forth from the kitchen to their "staff" table, all the while, trying to have a decent conversation over the immature staff giggling and hitting on each other. Puke. Maybe it's just me....

| "Not worth the time or money" |

by Tara (from Victoria) July 2007 - A friend and I went to the Earls Tin Palace on Jasper Avenue and were not very impressed right from the start. There was about a 20 minute wait for the patio but the patio was not even busy. Maybe they were short on wait staff? They definitely weren’t short on hostesses that were more useful as eye candy than anything else. We decided to go inside for a drink and wait for our table. When our table was ready the waitress inside wanted to settle the bill before we headed outside. My friend had a gift card and when the waitress brought it back she was sure to mention that she had only taken off the amount for the drinks and not the tip. Excuse me?! Her telling us that obvious fact did not make us want to tip her, that’s for sure. Then when they did put us outside, after waiting for 20 minutes they put us in the shade, which ended up being colder than the air conditioned restaurant! Anyway… we both had the Santa Fe chicken salad which was supposed to come with chicken, avocado, feta cheese, dates, corn and black beans in a peanut lime vinaigrette. When we ordered the waitress informed us that they were out of avocados, one of the main ingredients in the salad. For a salad that costs almost $15 we would expect some sort of compensation for that, but there was none. We even wondered why someone from the restaurant (maybe one of the many hostesses) didn’t run to the market that was down the block and pick up enough avocado to at least get them through the night. It was only 7 pm – that would be a long night of telling patrons that there was no avocado. Needless to say, we weren’t impressed and it did nothing to change my mind about Earls being a waste of time and money. I have decided once and for all that I am never going to Earls again – there’s just too many good, reasonably priced restaurants out there to justify supporting Earls.
