| "Go for the Escargot" |

by Brandy (from Dartmouth) October 2007 - Le Grand Bleu at 27 Avenue du Carrefour in Caraquet, New Brunswick is a great local restaurant by the ocean. The interior was unremarkable but the staff were very warm and inviting. It felt as if the other patrons there were locals who often frequented the restaurant and they all seemed to be in a jovial mood. The staff mostly speak French but a few can speak English if required. The menu is small but includes regional fare, some of which is only available at certain times of the year. There is also a distinct focus on seafood although I would not classify it as a seafood restaurant. My partner and I started with a bowl of seafood chowder. It was very good and tasted fresh, but we never found out if it really was. We also tried the escargot. They were fantastic. They were covered in delicious butter and topped with lots of gooey cheese. They were the best escargot I have ever tasted in a restaurant. Aside from the food, the view and the entertainment was also great. Large windows permit a view of the water crashing into the rocky shore. There was also a local musician playing guitar and singing in French. Some of the older couples were even dancing. It was a great time all around. If you ever find yourself in Eastern New Brunswick and near Caraquet, I definitely recommend going to Le Grand Bleu.
