"Great View, Good Food"

by Brandy (from Dartmouth)
September 2007 - What a fantastic view! Bay Breeze is located at 6410 Route #1 in the small town of Pocologan, about an hour east and west of St. Andrews and Saint John respectively. The restaurant is perched just off the highway atop a cliff that overlooks the beautiful Bay of Fundy. On this particular Monday evening in early September the sun was out and the water was sparkling deep blue. Patrons are invited to sit wherever they choose. The patio is recommended as the perfect place for an unobstructed view, so long as the ever-present cool breeze is not too strong. Otherwise, one of the three tables by the large ocean-facing windows is recommended. But be warned, the restaurant fills up quickly in the evening. A line-up even formed while we enjoyed our dinner.

The service was very informal but welcoming. The small staff seemed to do a great job of keeping everyone happy. The otherwise well-designed interior was disturbed by kitschy trivia placemats and catsup packages. The trivia questions were actually quite fun but they did not lend well to viewing the ocean.

The menu contained a wide variety of seafood. On this occasion, the fish and chips and the fried scallops were chosen. The fish and chips were okay. The scallops were very tender and juicy. They batter, however, was a bit dry and slightly overcooked. They would have tasted better had a herb seasoning been used in the batter. For dessert, a piece of homemade lemon meringue pie was shared and devoured. The restaurant offers a variety of homemade pies but the variety varies depending on the baker’s schedule. The cost for both meals, dessert and a coffee was a bargain at $33 after tax.

Most people will pass Pocologan on their way from Saint John to St. Andrews. Make sure to look for the restaurant sign on the side of the highway and be sure to save room for a meal: Bay Breeze is worth a visit for the great view and the good food.
