June 2007 - Brigus is a scenic Newfoundland fishing village where the architecture has been frozen in the nineteenth-century. Its natural and cultural beauty has made Brigus a tourist destination. During our visit, we noticed some high-end convertible autos cruising the narrow and winding streets. Entrepreneurs have also noticed the visitors, especially the entrepreneurs running souvenir and café businesses.
We came to see Brigus before the full tourist season began and we feared finding nowhere to eat. We then noticed a street-side sandwich-board sign announcing an opening. Entering the café, we were welcomed by the owner and her sisters who were discussing and enjoying their opening day. We were glad to find an open café and she was glad to see us.
The menu is small. The sandwiches are small but served on delicious home made bread. There was room left for dessert. We requested one dessert to share between the two of us. However, we received two large plates of dessert and two portions both larger than the expected one. We were only charged for one.
Though we came for Brigus, we were also delighted with the café experience..
