July 2008 - Our hostess at a nearby B and B told us that the best fish in Nfld. was at the Beachy Cove. You have a choice of sitting inside or out on the deck. Both afford views of the sea. We chose to sit on the outdoor deck. It was about 8 o’clock and the sky was turning a beautiful pink. We tried the mussels in garlic sauce for starters. Although they were better than most of the mussels I have tried in Calgary, they weren’t excellent. I would have liked more butter mixed into the garlic sauce. ($7.75) I also ordered the pan-fried cod. I enjoyed it very much. We tried the House Red Wine. I’m not sure what it was but it wasn’t very pleasant to drink. In retrospect, I should have ordered some Wolf Blas which ranged from $25 to $40 a bottle. The menu was quite varied, with several fish dishes. For about $17.00 you could have Salmon, Cod, or Cod Tongues. Beef dishes ranged from twelve to fifteen dollars. We enjoyed eating at Beachy Cove Café, and an added bonus was the entertainment provided by the terns, gulls and other sea birds as they soared, streaked across the sky, or dove in the water for supper.
