July 2008 - On our way to the Cape Mary’s Ecological Reserve, we stopped for a bite in Trepassey. The restaurant itself is very cool in that it has so much glass that one gets the impression they are in a solarium. Even though it was a foggy day, the restaurant was almost too hot. Apparently there is a wonderful view of the ocean from your table, but not on that particular day because of the fog. I ordered the Cod Burger and a coffee for $8.00. The menu also offered fish dishes($10 to $15), but most sandwiches and burgers were under $10.00. My cod burger tasted very good. What a treat to have fresh cod! I couldn’t help thinking how much better it was than some of the tasteless fishburgers I have had at fast food joints in Alberta. The coffee was surprisingly good. Much of the coffee served in Newfoundland is not to my taste. It is like the watered down version of coffee found in gas stations in small prairie towns or for that matter, the coffee my mother used to serve. My gut feeling is this is one of the better places to eat in the area.
