| "met Carl the current lighthouse keeper" |

July 2007 - WOW ... what a lighthouse. We were VERY lucky in that we were watching an iceberg break up and this gentleman with a pair of very large Bushnell binos was watching with us. He was explaining how this berg had broken up a lot in just the past few hours. We started talking ... turns out he is the lighthouse keeper and he apologized but he needed to get to mowing the lawn. We wandered up to the lighthouse and there was Carl - he'd removed his tie and doned a spotless navy blue jumpsuit and white gloves and was sure enough, mowing the lawn. When he saw up approaching the lighthouse he said, "I ususally don't do this, but I really like you folks." He shut off the mower and took us up in the lighthouse!! He explained the steps were make of oak, which is not a native species, so had come from elsewhere when the lighthouse was built. We climbed up the stairs to view the spectacular 360 degree view. It was a clear blue sky with several HUGE icebergs and Carl's lovely stories and charming personality! What a treat.
