| "Great Lunch, Friendly Service" |
|
|
by Brandy (from Dartmouth) November 2007 - H.K. Wong’s Palace Restaurant located at 644 Portland Street is reputed by many to be Dartmouth’s best little Chinese restaurant. Wedged into the middle of a strip mall and sparsely decorated on the inside, it does not look like much. It also does not seem very busy as our group provided the only customers during a weekday lunch. The service staff was very friendly, personable, and attentive. The food, as was hoped, was excellent. The spring rolls were crispy and sharp tasting with an added sweetness from the sauce provided. The beef and broccoli main was also very good. The beef was surprisingly tender and tasty. The broccoli was steamed to perfection. Of course, the meal ended with the traditional fortune cookie. Others at the table were equally impressed with their meals that included standard North American-styled Chinese food like sweet and sour chicken and ginger beef. Prices were reasonable with appetizers in the $6 range and most meals ranging in price from $8 to $12 before tax. If I wanted to impress a friend with ambiance and décor, I would not take them here. If I wanted to show them a quick and tasty Chinese lunch, I would definitely bring them to H.K. Wong’s.
