by David (from Orleans) May 2008 - With some hours between flights at the Robert L Stanfield international airport in Halifax, I had hoped to hike outside, explore and dine. I found nothing within a walk of the airport. YHZ is actually thirty kilometres from Halifax (and civilization). I settled for dining in the pre-boarding retail courtyard which includes outlets such as the Discovery Channel store, Burger King, Tim Hortons and the Maritime Ale House. I should have gone back through security and dined at the Legends Sports Bar and Grill.
Instead, I ate at the Brisket Boardwalk Deli. The deli has no signage but it's easy to spot. Breakfast is provided until 10:30 am and includes panini, bagel or eggs. The dinner menu includes three pizzas (all dressed, vegetarian and pepperoni), three soups (today's options were Boston clam chowder, hearty beef with vegetables and creamy turkey vegetable) and seven sandwich selections.
I purchased the Klondike chili and the grilled chicken panini plate. This was actually enough food for two meals. The thick and heavy chili proved to be too much for my flimsy plastic spoon. The chili came with a bun or crackers.
The panini came with fries and a pickle slice. The sandwich was fine. However, expect to have onion breath by the time you board your next flight.
