July 2007 - Having previously stayed at Cambridge Suites several times over the past 10 years, when it comes down to staying in a hotel, it all comes down to money in the end for me. I booked a junior studio suite and the rate on worldweb was cheaper than any other site, including Cambridge Suites' webpage. When I checked in, I was pleasantly surprised to be told they were going to upgrade my room for free to a junior king suite. The room was spacious with a separate bedroom, kitchenette, business desk, lounging area with TV, another sitting area, and windows looking out onto Halifax downtown and the waterfront. My room also had the unexpected surprise of a connection to a local free WiFi Hotspot (no charge), but I think this is limited to the lower-floors on the harbour-side of the hotel, thus saving you from having to pay for internet. Likely the hotel doesn't know about this so keep it a secret, but request a room on the 2nd floor facing the harbour to take advantage of this. The bathroom had everything you'd come to expect from a hotel. The bedroom had one of the most comfortable beds I have ever stayed in, to the point where when you wake up in the morning it's a debate whether to sleep in and enjoy. The complimentary breakfast is definitely worth it, unlike other hotels which would easily charge $15+. The breakfast consists of various juices, coffees/teas, muffins/croissants, cereals, toasts, various fruit selections (including fresh grapefuits) and more, and you are more than welcome to eat, and then load up a tray and take more food back to your hotel room for later. The in-hotel restaurant is great for sitting at breakfast time and enjoying your breakfast while reading the free local newpaper. Parking is affordable here, yet they do offer free parking on some packages/offers. The hotel is located ideally in the center of the city, close to everything you could ever want, including spectacular restaurants, nightlife, and tourist sites. The staff are all friendly, and show true Maritime hospitality where they actual care, unlike other hotels nationwide where you are 'just another guest.' I would highly recommend Cambridge Suites to any business traveller or tourist visiting the Halifax area. Have a great night's sleep!
