| "Strange Chairs, Small Restaurant" |
|
|
by Brandy (from Dartmouth) February 2008 - Stories is a small upscale restaurant located inside the Halliburton House Inn. The interior is elegant and sleek, plied with dark brown hardwood and black accents. A hostess greets patrons at the door and takes coats if required. There are only about five or six tables in the entire restaurant so reservations are necessary even if employees tell you over the phone that they are not. Our group unexpectedly had to wait for a table. The waiting/reading room is cozy and features comfortable chairs. The same cannot be said for the chairs in the dining room. We actually switched tables as the chairs at the first table were too high. Once properly seated, we were treated to an excellent meal. The menu may vary but the scallops, as an appetizer, are a must. Three large succulent scallops were served on a crispy wonton and a bed of salad. Black cod, duck, and chicken were the three mains chosen by individuals in our party. The duck was especially memorable. The table shared a berry tart for dessert that was average. Service was above average and prices were as expected for a restaurant of this calibre. Mains ranged from $25 to $35. Stories also serves a large selection of wine with most glasses sold for about $10. The restaurant is recommended as a quiet place for an intimate or relaxing encounter.
