February 2008 - Jon Alan’s Luxx is a relatively high-end steak restaurant located at 5657 Spring Garden Road in Halifax. Easy to miss on the busy street, a large sign directs passers-by to a door and a set of stairs to the second floor restaurant. The interior is modern and sleek with a large bar and several tables with views of the street below. The hostess was very charming and knowledgeable about the menu. My partner and I selected the Pork Chop main and the Stuffed Chicken. The pork was very tender and seasoned lightly with herbs and spices. Although we did not select any beef, we noticed fresh uncooked beef brought to a table so that they could select their own cut and size: quite an option for those so inclined! We shared the Chocolate Pie for dessert but it was generally unremarkable. Prices were relatively high but not overly so. Our mains cost $19 and $22 respectively but were on the low end of the menu with many of the beef and seafood dishes in the $30 range. Reservations are not often required but parking can be difficult to find.
