July 2008 - The Ardmore Tea Room is located on Quinpool Road in Halifax and looks from the outside as if it should be condemned. However, don’t let its exterior fool you. The Ardmore serves up a great breakfast. The restaurant was packed on a Wednesday morning. Patrons are to seat themselves and tables, especially those by the windows, are highly coveted. The breakfast menu is somewhat small and very plain but the food they do serve is fantastic. Three of us ordered French Toast, Corn Beef Hash, and the Three Egg Breakfast. The French Toast was divine, covered in real butter and syrup. The eggs and toast were prepared excellently. The Corn Beef Hash was good and filling: the eggs were poached to perfection. The service staff was polite and prompt but was unable to provide insight into the menu as it was only their second day on the job. Of particular note is the restaurant’s decision to accept only cash. I doubt they accept reservations but get there early if you want a table. The food at the Ardmore is worth it even if the décor is not.
