"The Lower Deck Experience"

by Brandy (from Dartmouth)
February 2008 - The Lower Deck on Lower Water Street in Halifax is a must see and do for all visitors. Constructed and decorated as a traditional pub, it is separated into upper and lower sections. The ‘lower’ section is always packed with people and there is always loud music, often performed live. The ‘upper’ section is a little bit quieter but not always full. Both sections, but especially the lower one, are always filled with a fun, raucous atmosphere. It can be difficult to talk to the people next to you because it is so loud. Despite this impairment, one cannot help but enjoy themselves. The food served at the lower deck is typical pub food but it is very good. On this occasion, my party shared nachos, a pepperoni pizza, a Caesar salad and several beers including the domestic sampler. The pepperoni pizza was made with the Chris Brothers’ fantastic pepperoni, although the pizza itself was a little on the greasy side. The nachos and the Caeser salad were also very good but otherwise unmemorable. The pub has a reasonable variety of beers to choose from and they are priced equally reasonably at about only $4 a bottle. People come to the Lower Deck for the drinks and the experience more than anything else.
