September 2008 - Jamieson’s Irish House & Grill at 5 Cumberland Drive is undoubtedly Dartmouth’s best pub. The restaurant is located amongst some other businesses in a strip mall: it is not an ideal location and it does not look very nice on the outside. Once inside, however, one almost feels as if they are in a little piece of Ireland. It is dimly lit but cozy. The furniture, including couches, sofas, and chairs, does not appear new but fits well with the pub atmosphere. It is a very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. The beverage selection is a bit hit and miss. They do not have a wide range of drinks but they have all the standard selections and several very unique brews. The biggest surprise is the quality of their food menu. Again, they have the standard pub fare, but also they have some innovative and tasty twists on Irish standards. Service is always prompt and friendly. The best place to sit, as we did on this particular Saturday afternoon in September, is at the front of the restaurant at the couches. There really is no feeling like eating you lunch on a couch in a local pub. Although there exists a relative dearth of pubs in the Dartmouth area, Jamieson’s is by far the best and even rivals the best pubs across the harbour in Halifax.
