August 2007 - Dockers Pub in Balfour is located on the Balfour side of the Kootenay Lake ferry. It is a handy place to come if you have to wait for the ferrry or if, like us, you are camping nearby and its raining and you really want to eat something other than hot dogs. Balfour is small and I assume locals frequent this pub as well as there is limited entertainment for the town.
It was a pleasant surprise to see a few different vegetarian options on the menu at Dockers. I got the vegetarian quesadilla with a side salad. I was disappointed in the meal. There was too much cheese in the quesadilla (which is not something I would normally say is a fault) but there was not much in the form of vegetables. It was just too cheesy. Other people I was dining with got the vegetarian hamburger and the beef dip and were quite impressed with their meals so I think it would just be best to steer clear of the quesadilla.
There is a pool table, a dart board and a view of the docking ferries for entertainment. Prices are good and they have a few local beers on tap. It was a good place to come to get out of the rain, to play some darts and to have a pint.
