August 2008 - My husband and I booked into the Sunflower B&B for four nights and chose the Sandstone room, the smaller of the three rooms, because we didn't need the extra beds the other two rooms offer. The B&B's location is wonderful, with expansive views of the lake. It also has a dock and small private beach. The breakfast was fine, though offered within a very limited (and rigid) time frame, 8-9 AM. For those who are on vacation, needing to rise early for breakfast can seem unreasonable.

However, the website was misleading when it described the Sandstone room as having a private bathroom. I assumed that meant it was in the room, but it's not. Granted, no one else uses the bathroom, but you still have to get dressed to leave your room and use it. Sandstone also is directly below the kitchen area. On our first morning we were awakened at 6:45 AM by the dishwasher and then a lot of thumping of feet walking back and forth above us. No more sleep that day, and it can be difficult to find spaces in the day to take a nap when there isn't a lot of walking above your head. The room also is a fishbowl when the blinds are open. The deck in front of the room is a common area with lots of lounges, etc. So too is the small fridge located there, encouraging constant back and forth during the day and evening when other guests want access to it.

On our second night, we decided to go to bed earlier, 11 PM, since we could count on being awakened at 7 AM or earlier by the owner. However, the guests, two families in the other units, all related apparently, partied out on the dock and made forays into the fridge for more fuel (wine/beer) until my husband finally went out after midnight and asked them to quiet down. I was amazed that the owner did not make the request herself but left it to others to enforce some kind of consideration for other paying guests. I don't think it's unreasonable to desire a quiet time from 11 PM on. That's the policy at other hotels/b&bs.

Perhaps the other rooms are quieter; the one on the top floor at least would be more private. However, I must stress that the owner, is an attentive host and tries to accommodate everyone's needs. The place also has the most splendid view on the lake. The house itself is extremely well kept up. And the other two rooms are great. So I would definitely stay there again. I just wouldn't choose Sandstone for the reasons mentioned above
