by MJ (from Kimberley) March 2007 - When I viewed this motel's website, I thought that it would be a wonderful place to spend a night with my husband on our anniversary. The website boasted beautiful jacuzzi suites, a beautiful dining room and a spectacular view of the valley. I can not express how absolutely dissapointed we were.
Upon arriving, we pulled into a parking lot in extreme disrepair. There were potholes everywhere. The woman at the front desk was cold and unwelcoming. We pulled the car up to the side of the building where our suite was located, and got out to see 5 or 6 shopping carts lined up in the center of the parking lot. We went up the stairs to get to our suite, and there was a stray dog who smelled like death blocking our path. Once we got past the mongerel and continued up the stairs, the "patio furniture" that lined the balcony (that overlooked the shoddy parking lot and shopping carts) was actually old seats from a 1950s greyhound bus.
The hallway to the room was disgusting. The walls were crumbling, the lights were flickering, and upon arriving IN the room, I was even more dissapointed. There was no coffee pot, no microwave, the "ice container" was actually an old tobacco tin. There was at least one light bulb burnt out in each light fixture, and then I saw the tub..... The jacuzzi in our "jacuzzi suite". It was a normal bathtub that someone had modified. There were 8 jets in the bottom of the tub, only 4 of which worked at all. The "view of the valley" turned out to be a view of a rundown wooden fence. When we opened our curtains, we were greeted by a ramshackle wooden fence, not even 2 feet from our window, that completely blocked the view of anything.
I can not think of a single thing that was as I expected it to be. There was no standard of care or cleanliness, and the disrepair of the building itself was horrendous. I only wish I would have had a camera with me. The whole experience was an absolute letdown.
Oh.... one more thing. the shopping carts I mentioned earlier? As we were leaving the motel, we saw teh chambermaid pushing one of them around, with her cleaning supplies in it.
Absolutely horrendous.
