June 2008 - If you make it through to Grand Forks, BC, make sure to stop in for some great food at the Cheeky Monkey Cafe and Grill. This is a little ma and pa run restaurant with a unique and delicious menu. Much of their dinner menu is comprised of tapas: appetizers to share. (If you want it all to yourself, most of their dishes are also available as a complete meal with rice and veggies). The three of us enjoyed sharing a variety of tasty dishes: Greeko Romano Salad, Caps Caps Stuffed Mushrooms, Tantric Thai chicken, Peanut Thai Beef strips, and 2 sides of rice. Delicious! All of the dishes were tasty and fresh. The Greek salad had a hint of oregano, the Mushroom caps were stuffed with sauteed garlic and cheese, the
Thai chicken was done in a zesty ginger and green onion sauce, and the Thai beef had a delightfully sweet and nutty peanut sauce. My guests, who frequent this restaurant and have tried nearly everything on the menu noted that "Everything here is good. You can't make a bad choice". Delightful. The proprietor of the Cheeky Monkey is also the main chef, visited us often during our visit. With his amiable nature and sense of humour, he added a genuine warmth to the already cozy atmosphere. The walls hold vibrant artwork, paintings from one of his series. The Cheeky monkey recognizes that many people have specific dietary requirements. None of their sauces contain any gluten, they strive to sweeten with natural sweeteners, such as honey, and serve only high quality meats. They are open for lunch from 11am -1pm and for dinner from 5-10pm. Reservations are encouraged if you plan on coming later in the evening.
