August 2007 - The Treehouse restaurant is located on the main street of Kaslo - a charming little town on Kootenay Lake. There's only a few restaurants in Kaslo, and the Treehouse is by far the best economic choice. The ambience is simple and has a certain feel only diners located in woodsy areas can have. The waitresses are efficient and excellent - I've been there three times and always had great, down-to-earth service, despite it being quite crowded one time. My latest trip I ordered a Chicken- Basil - Mozerella wrap with a side of greens and my friend had a Caribbean wrap with mango chutney - both were great (despite mine not coming with chicken which I was re-imbursed for). The Treehouse menu is surprisingly diverse and offers seven pages of menu options ranging from salads, wraps and melts, to burgers, stir-fry's and seafood specials. In the summer, there's a couple tables outside on the sidewalk if you prefer to get away from the rather loud pop music played inside - the only real downside to the place - although sometimes the music seems less obstrusive and more low-key. With ample portions and great taste the Treehouse is a good selection for someone with a hearty appetite, on a budget, or with a family. Its unpretentious air makes someone coming in from a camping trip - or on a road trip - feel right at home. It's right across the street from a great bakery and expresso bar which we took advantage of with treats for friends and americanos to go in lieu of diner coffee (not appealing to a coffee snob such as myself).
