"A truly great dining experience!"

August 2008 - While we were visiting Nelson, we decided to dine at Max and Irma's for lunch. I had been there about two years ago and remembered enjoying the food there.

The restaurant has a really cozy atmosphere and a very good menu. They have a wood-burning oven and cook many dishes in it, including pizzas and on this particular day they had a special of wood-fired hot wings. The menu also offers pastas, sandwiches, wraps, melts, entrees and appetizers.

I was told that the restaurant is known for their soups, so I tried one of the soups of the day to start. It was tomato basil and it was very, very good. The other two in my party shared the Indian potato soup and they seemed to enjoy it a lot.

Max & Irma's had a lunch special of beef dip with dijon, jack cheese and a red wine au jus and I must say it was probably one of the best beef dips I've had. They thinly sliced the beef and it was a great combo with the au jus. It came with a caesar salad, which was also pretty good.

We had some mushroom caps to share between us all and they were very cheesy and the cheese foccacia that they were served with was very fresh and delicious. Another person in my party had the daily quiche and she couldn't stop raving about it, so it must have been divine.

When we were dining the power went out and the staff was not phased at all. Thanks to the wood-burning oven they still pumped out the food.

The service was also fantastic. When we tried to order too much food, the server recommended that we tone it down a bit, which was probably a good idea because we didn't finish everything...although I tried...I ate half of my wife's sandwich since she couldn't finish it!

The best thing about this restaurant is that everything tasted so fresh and delicious, with no grease involved. I walked away very full, yet didn't feel sick like I would after eating a meal of pub grub.

September 2006 - We visited Max & Irma's on a Friday night and it was packed! They had romantic live music and a wide range of Californian dishes. We started with the stuffed mushroom caps, which were delicious! I had a wood-fired pizza and everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals.
