July 2007 - We were excited to visit Villa Dome Quixote in New Denver - a friend of ours had taken her mother there and really enjoyed it. Upon arrival we discovered there were five forest fires in the local area causing a power outage in the entire town of New Denver - including Villa Dome Quixote. Graciously, the hostess at Dome Quixote showed my friend and I around, being frank about the power outage in town and mentioning understandingly there was power in the nearby town of Kaslo we could stay in instead. Regardless, she wanted to show us a quick tour and we fell in love with the place - outdoor spa and cedar sauna out of use nonetheless. Villa Dome Quixote's charming curved walls and domed ceilings create a special atmosphere seldomn found in modern North American architecture. We were given small tea lights and a small reduction in fare and shown sweetly to our equally sweet room. Villa Dome Quixote is painted in earth tones mirroring its somewhat subtle philosophy of environmental concern and feminine energy. Run by three very different women, the Villa is home to year-round workshops and events of yogic and health-centred variety. Situated in the town of New Denver, I think it was the first time in quite some time I had been said hi to by each townsperson as we walked by. Truly one of the last genuinely quaint, friendly, and sincere towns the ambience of New Denver is half the appeal of staying at Villa Dome Quixote - aside from its very reasonable rates. The Slocan Lake down the street offers refreshing swimming opportunities and beautiful Kootenay Mountain sunsets.
