"Dine in an idyllic setting"

by Joy (from Calgary)
June 2008 - We ski in Fernie and have always heard about catskiing at the Island Lake Lodge (which is inaccessible by standard vehicle in winter) so on a summer visit, we decided to drive up to the lodge for lunch. The narrow, dusty drive (approx 10 kms) is worth it for the setting and the huge, old cedars along the way. The lodge is made up of about three large log structures with a lunchtime patio and restaurant in one of them. It was a beautiful summer day so we ate outside on the patio and had closeup views of the Lizard Range and the lake just below us. The food and service were both great, the lunchtime prices were quite modest and the setting was spectacular. I'll definitely go again and, with any luck, will check it out the same mountain slopes in winter via a snowcat!

"Dream setting, great food"

by Sally (from Fernie, BC)
June 2008 - On the summer solstice, with some visitors from England, we decided to drive the ten, or so kilometers up to Lake Island Lodge from Fernie, the restaurant had a lunch special for the solstice. It is quite a long drive, on graveled road, half of which is switchback-like turns going up to the setting of a log cabin-style lodge, restaurant and other accommodation buildings. We sat outside on a great deck looking towards the beautiful mountains catching glimpses of the lake through the trees. The girls serving us were very friendly and I thoroughly enjoyed the Indus fish, which had a tomato, cucumber and peanut sauce. The fish was cooked in a banana leaf on a bed of basmati rice and was delicious. I tasted the Moroccan lamb on Indian Nan bread, which was also very good. We took stroll down to the lakeside, which is very picturesque and enjoyed taking photos of the mountains, and lake. It was a pleasantly relaxed and very enjoyable lunch and afternoon.
