"Great Food! Great Patio!"

by Denny (from Calgary, AB)
August 2008 - We had stopped at this pub a few years ago and thought it was pretty good, so when we were passing through Fernie this week we stopped at Rip'n Richards to get a bite to eat again. It was a really hot day, so we chose to sit on the patio. It's a really nice spot that offers about 20 tables and overlooks the river. We ordered a couple of local beers on tap and were surprised at how huge the mugs were. They had to be 20 ounces or more! The menu is filled with delicious items like burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, appetizers, enchiladas and quesadillas. On this particular day they even had a salmon entree special, but I chose to have one of their pizzas and it was delicious. I forget the name, but I think it had "Hula" in it and it had ham, pineapple and other vegetables on it. My wife had a steak quesadilla and it was also very good - I had to try it, of course. It was stuffed with items like onions, lots of cheese, mushrooms, guacamole and salsa and was served with a chipolte mayo.

Our server was quick and very friendly and we were very pleased with our dining experience. When we're in Fernie we'll definitely eat at Rip'n Richards again!

"Casual, low-key restaurant with good food "

June 2008 - I've been to Rip & Richards a couple of times when skiing/hiking in Fernie, once with young children in tow and both times it has been a good choice. The food is good - I usually opt for Tex-Mex options like the Memphis Quesadilla - and the atmosphere is friendly and a bit more casual than many Fernie restaurants. It also is one of the few places in town where it is possible to eat outside in nice weather and the patio near the river is usually busy in summer. Plus, the eatery seems as popular with locals as with visitors which is always a good sign.

"Local, kid-friendly diner"

by Sally (from Fernie, BC)
April 2008 - Rip & Richards is a super little diner with atmosphere, good food, kid-friendly service and lots of locals using it, which to me is a very telling sign of a good place. It is a large open area with a couple of different levels that helped it feel more cozy and less barn like than it might have done.

We went there early on a Tuesday evening so I was surprised that we were not the only people dining. The wait staff immediately asked if the two little girls would like to colour and brought pens and paper for them. This kept them happy until their pizza’s arrived along with our nachos and calamari appetizers to share. I followed with fish and chips, which were great, and the quesadillas that the others ordered all went down well too. The bill was very reasonable and Rip and Richards gets a two thumbs-up from me.

"A Good Place to Stop!"

by Sarah (from Calgary, AB)
September 2006 - We were driving from Nelson to Calgary and once we hit Fernie we were famished. We were going to stop at a burger joint, but were relieved to see Rip & Richards Eatery on the side of the highway. It is a huge pub/restaurant and offers a wide selection of menu items, including burgers, sandwiches and Tex-Mex cuisine. I had the steak quesadilla, which was really good. You have to use a knife and a fork to eat it, it's so full of yummy ingredients. My husband had a clubhouse sandwich and liked it too. We sat inside, but the large patio was full. The service was a bit slow, but that's understandable since it was a long weekend and the place was hopping. If I need to eat in Fernie again, I probably will go back to this restaurant.
