| "Ski bums meet local hangout" |

by Sally (from Fernie, BC) December 2007 - Freshies seems to view itself as the hip trendy place to hang out in Fernie during the day, and it is. It has a lively yet relaxed vibe with a mixture of snowboard/mountain bike ‘dudes’, locals and tourists blended nicely. They offer free wireless internet if you bring your own laptop, but the power plug-ins are taped over so make sure you’re battery pack is well charged. I really like the Americano coffees here but I’m a little put off that they only take cash, so I have to remember a few loonies when I walk through the door, this has also tended to put me off buying any food and pastries, I guess I’m just a credit card lover at heart!
The place is big and open with wood floors and tables and open brickwork walls and ceiling, but it still manages to evoke a cozy feeling, perhaps the low lighting and wood décor brings this about. The staff and locals are friendly and welcome conversation about local issues like snow conditions, powder and when the next flakes are forecast!

by Cleo (from Calgary) August 2007 - From spending a few days in Fernie this summer, it appeared that Freshies is where the young local crowd goes for coffee, smoothies or just to count the days until winter and the place had a great space - wooden floors, high ceilings, brightly-coloured walls, mix-matched tables and chairs - a laid-back atmosphere with local ads, internet, etc.
The only thing that put me off is that it was a cash-only establishment, a bit of an inconvenience in these debit-time days. Otherwise, it seemed to mimic the general feeling of the whole town - friendly, flirty and kicked-back in an almost horizontal way.
