| "Thailand comes to Fernie" |

January 2008 - Thai food in Thailand is hot, hot and even hotter, which for me is just a little too much chilli, so I like the idea of choosing mild, medium or hot in a Thai restaurant. Sawai Thai is set back off the road out of town and is not well sign posted but on the Friday evening that we went there we had a 15 minute wait for a table, so this was a good indicator right from the off, in my view. We were not disappointed. Between three of us we ordered two starters, Fish Cakes with cucumber sauce and Vegetarian spring rolls, followed by three main dishes to share, Pad Thai, Neua satay (beef) and Coconut and lime chicken. Despite our best efforts to consume everything in one sitting as it was all delicious, we were fortunate to be able to take a little home to sample again the next day!
The staff were friendly and welcoming and happy to make suggestions about menu choices when we asked for advise. The log cabin atmosphere seemed a little at odds with Thai food for me but the pleasant low lighting (I don’t like bright light restaurants!) and cosy feeling it had were just great.

| "A hidden gem in Fernie" |

December 2007 - The Sawai Thai restaurant in Fernie is a hidden gem. Hidden because it literally is hard to find and a gem because it has great Thai food at reasonable prices in a town where the combination of both is a scarcity. Sawai Thai was recommended to us and after finding it tucked away at the east end of town in the Fernie Log Inn, we were glad it was. What the place lacks in ambiance (Thai and the log theme don't entirely go hand in hand), it more than made up for in friendliness and good food. And it appears that others share my opinion, the place was packed!
